Tatton Park display will reveal modern day heritage

Mar 18 2005

Chester Chronicle, Llandudno

CHESHIRE'S Large Visitor Attraction of the Year is preparing for its high season opening tomorrow (Saturday, March 19) and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever with lots of new events and exhibitions to tantalise visitors.

Until October 2, Tatton Park - which has recently been awarded a Green Flag Award recognising its value to both the local and wider community of Cheshire and the North West - will be open to visitors daily from 10am-7pm.

A new exhibition relating primarily to the life and times of Maurice 4th Baron Egerton is one of the highlights this season.

It will house an ethnographic display along with other collections relating to Tatton Park's 'modern day' heritage and will tell a fascinating story of exploration, travel and collecting habits of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Brendan Flanagan, general manager of Tatton Park, said: 'We are hoping that the exhibition will encourage people who may not have been to Tatton for a while to revisit and see some of the fascinating artefacts that Lord Egerton collected on his travels.

'The collection will be on permanent display in the Mansion and is just one of the many reasons to visit Tatton during the 2005 season.'

Tatton also has a variety of exhibitions, talks and 1940s days celebrating the 60th anniversary of VE Day as well as over 50 events throughout the year from the RHS Flower Show to outdoor concerts, car shows and the new Tatton Park Country Show.

There are lots of new animals down on the farm including a mischievous boar called Boris, Dotty the donkey has two new friends and the usual spring lambs and piglets are starting to arrive.

And in the gardens, a new Garden Trail leaflet has been created that highlights the magnificent architecture nestled amongst the 50 acres.
