Laws of Attraction (12A, 90 mins) Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Julianne Moore, Parker Posey, Michael Sheen, Frances Fisher Director: Peter Howitt
AS AN actor, Peter Howitt made his name playing Joey Boswell in Carla Lane's Bread. Today he has become not a bad film director (remember Sliding Doors?).
His latest features Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore as opposing divorce lawyers who just happen to be attracted to each other. It's a frothy, well-humoured romantic comedy with fine comic performances from both of the stars.
Moore, right, is in her element as top-notch lawyer Audrey Miller who wins all her cases with fine argument.
Alas, wedded to the job she has little social life and her mother (an excellent Frances Fisher) would love her to find a husband.
Her divorce rival is another hot-shot lawyer Daniel Rafferty played by Pierce Brosnan.
The divorce battle between a rock star played by Michael Sheen and his wife Parker Posey centres around an Irish castle which they both want.
To settle the matter, the two lawyers head off to Ireland to take a look for themselves and one drunken night they end up married and have to fake wedded bliss.
Laws of Attraction is a little charmer thanks largely to the likeable performances of its two stars and a cute script.
