DUNCAN Winfield, who became British open solo trombone champion in 1987, is paying a welcome visit to the North Wales Jazz Society meeting at the Crown Inn, Llay, on Tuesday (October 31). The talented musician is successfully building a solo career on the North West jazz scene, having previously enjoyed a two-and-a-half year stint with Andy Prior and the Night Owls and many years in brass bands. He has toured extensively in America, Russia, Israel, Greece, Iceland, Germany, Denmark and Brazil and had recorded for radio, television and on CD. He is well-known to jazz lovers as lead trombonist with the Wigan Jazz Club Big Band, the Dave O'Higgins Big Un, the Richard IIes/Andy Schofield Big Band and the Georgina Bromilow Big Band. Other outfits he has appeared with at various festivals include Neil Yates Collective, the Stan Getz Tribute Band and Amazonia.
