THE Afro-Cuban group Sierra Maestra, an outstanding nine-piece from Cuba, will perform for North Wales salsa fans at Denbigh Town Hall on June 19. Sierra Maestra have been inter-nationally acclaimed stars of Cuban music since the 1970s. The band first performed in 1976 at Havana University, where the musicians were all students. Since then, they have produced 14 albums and performed throughout the world. Cymru Cuba's salsa nights are now a regular part of the Denbigh Festival and again this year there will be salsa workshops during the day designed with beginners in mind. Doors open for the evening with Sierra Maestra at 8pm. For further information and details on tickets, contact David Jones on 01745 813402. * At last November's salsa night in Denbigh Town Hall, Cymru Cuba launched Jenny Pye's sponsorship campaign for her bike ride across Cuba, which took place over Easter. Jenny raised over £6,000 for Cuban medical and education projects. |
