Head of the family Osmond

Mar 10 2005

Wrexham Mail, Llandudno

SCENES of delirious fans screaming, crying and fainting in the presence of The Osmonds are some of the most enduring pop images of the 70s.

Now Merrill Osmond - who took lead vocals on virtually all the brothers' biggest hits - is heading to the North Wales Theatre.

To the more mature women of today, he was one of the pin-ups in a band which oozed wholesome family appeal.

Despite Donny's subsequent superstardom it was Merrill who had lead vocals on hits such as One Bad Apple, Crazy Horses, Down By The Lazy River and Love Me For A Reason.

The Osmonds were The Beatles of the 70s in terms of hysterical fans and although these fans have grown up and had children, and in some cases grandchildren, of their own, their enthusiasm has never really diminished.

One of the reasons The Osmonds remain so successful could be linked to their big, happy family image.

Merrill is now married with six children and runs a theatre with brothers Jay and Wayne in Missouri..

* Merrill will be in Llandudno on March 22. Tickets are £21.50 and £19.50, available from the box office on 01492 872000 or at www.nwtheatre .co.uk
