BEING a Blue Peter presenter doesn't automatically mean you will be a natural at taking a headlining role in panto. So it was with some trepidation that one ventured to Llandudno to see how Matt Baker fared as the star attraction of Venue Cymru's annual festive spectacular. Such concerns were quickly dispelled as Baker instantly proved to be a charming, charismatic stage presence more than capable of holding his own alongside his more seasoned co-stars. Glitz, glamour, song and dance, special effects and dreadful jokes combined to make this an irresistible family treat which even showed admirable restraint in only making two Blue Peter references throughout the show! The songs were a strange mix of established pop classics, A Whole New World from the Disney Aladdin film and at least one original composition. And it was left to the inimitable Peter Piper as Wishee Washee to provide most of the genuinely funny comedy which included a routine involving a gorilla suit and a cage that bordered on genius! uAladdin runs until January 7. |
