More CCTV coverage for problem area

Oct 17 2008

by Francesca Elliott, Flintshire Chronicle

CCTV around Mercia Square in Mynydd Isa is to be improved.

Not less than £20,000 has been set aside to provide total camera coverage for the area, which will include three 360-degree mobile cameras and infra- red facilities.

The back and roof of the square will also be covered for the first time.

Rhodri Hampson-Jones, of Argoed Community Council, said: “A lot more of the area will be covered now.

“We have to talk to the county council, but we’re hoping to have everything in place before Christmas.”

The community council is also hoping to make the area a no-alcohol zone, as it says anti-social behaviour in the area is becoming a nuisance.

“We’re going to make the request to the county council to make the area alcohol free. There’s lots of alcohol-related litter about, 15 empty bottles of wine were found all over the grass behind Mercia Square.”
