HOLYWELL and District Neighbourhood Watch has been commended for its work with the police. At the Eastern Division Awards, divisional commander Ruth Purdie congratulated chairmen Barry Lambert and Dave Badger on their work. Barry, also a town councillor, said: “We don’t do it for the awards but it’s nice to know we’re appreciated. “We have always had a good relationship with Holywell police.” The pair provide support to victims of crime, fitting temporary CCTV and extra security measures, such as door chains, to houses recently burgled. Barry said: “The CCTV has been very successful. It has helped us to catch criminals and also makes residents feel more confident.” They were nominated for the Working in Partnership award by Holywell community beat manager PC Cath McHarrie. Barry and Dave often put money toward projects when the Neighbourhood Watch budget does not stretch far enough and spend evenings and weekends helping those who have been affected by crime. They worked with the police to set up the graffiti board scheme, which saw three boards placed at different locations around Holywell for youths to show off their art skills. Barry said: “There has been a decrease in graffiti since the boards went up. “When I was designing them I looked up all sorts of websites and hardly anywhere else had mobile boards.” |
