NORTHOP Hall 2nds left it late to put one over Colwyn Bay 2nds on Monday as they returned to winning ways in the Second XI Premier Division. Having gone down to their Welsh rivals at Smithy Lane earlier in the campaign, Bobby Roberts’ boys were set a testing 222-5dec, with Ed Markey (2-28) the pick of their bowlers. But they managed to reach 226-7 with a four off the concluding delivery of the derby to bag a 20-8 points victory that hoists them up to sixth. Michael Littler led the way with a quick-fire 52 off only 22 balls while captain Roberts (46), Sam Jackson (30no) and Paul Higginson (28) and his son Will (26) all made telling contributions. Higginson Snr (37) top- scored in Hall’s 25-4 points reverse to champions-elect New Brighton 2nds on Saturday. The runaway leaders declared on 226-4 after 41 overs before halting their hosts on 140 in the 37th over. Alistair Roberts (26) and Higginson Jnr (23) were the only other batsman to make an impact. Hall head to fourth-placed Bootle 2nds tomorrow. |
