FRUSTRATED Hawar- den Park face a do-or-die Premier Division relegation showdown tomorrow when they welcome St Asaph to the Castle Ground.

Adam Doyle’s second- from-bottom side, with just two games to play, must beat the basement boys to stand any chance of staying up.

The 2003 champions, much-changed to the team that finished runners-up last time out, slipped into the drop spots on Saturday as a result of their 22-4 points reverse to Menai Bridge.

Kiwi Scott Inglis (6-35), supported by Ian Martin (3-12), produced one of his best bowling performances for Hawarden as they ripped through the title-challenging hosts for 168. But their hopes of recording a vital victory were banished as, at the hands of Ashley Wood (5-6) and James Coate (4-32), they fell for 98, although Doyle felt they were on the wrong end of a number of contentious lbw decisions.

The skipper said: “As the captain I have to go into the dressing room at the end of every game and point out criticisms and pick out things that we could have done better. But I could not criticise any of the batting on Saturday.

“With a changed team, we always knew it was going to a hard season. But if we can just get this win on Saturday we would be nearly there.

“We’re not having the best weather, but our pitch is holding up well and I’m sure both sides will want this game to be played at all costs as it’s one we both must win.”

Doyle will be boosted by the return of Craig Wilson tomorrow but Craig Pearson is struggling after taking a yorker on the foot at Menai, a match in which he top-scored with 30. Andy Griffin is promoted from the seconds.

Mold, missing captain Jamie Griffiths and a host of other first-teamers, could not do Hawarden a favour on Saturday as they went down to a 24-3 points loss to Llanrwst, who climbed to third-from-the-foot.

The Chester Road outfit collapsed from 101-3 to 149ao, with John Williams (42) their only batsman to get going, before the visitors made it to 151-5 despite the best efforts of Alan Coppack (3-38).

Mold secretary Dave Wiseman, whose side have a mid- table battle at Bethesda tomorrow, said: “We are woefully short of bodies, through injury, work commitments and holidays, but it is giving us the opportunity to blood a few of the young lads who’ve been playing for our seconds in Division Four.

“The step up in class is massive as they’re playing against the best players in North Wales, but it will be a good experience for them.”
