SIMON Sedgwick is setting his sights high after Buckley Town hauled themselves into the top six. The Trotters, inspired by Joe Garner and courtesy of third league goals of the season from Alan Dawson and Jamie Rogers, beat second-from-bottom Gresford 2-0 at Globe Way on Friday night to extend their winning run to three matches in all competitions. With their next two fixtures coming away to third-from-bottom Glantraeth tomorrow (2.30pm) and at home to basement boys Llandyrnog on Wednesday (7.30pm), Sedgwick knows his improving team have the chance to cement their position among the leading pack. Sedgwick, able to introduce Adie Moody into his squad on Wednesday, said: “Gresford had a go but we always had the edge and we could easily have scored five or six. “We’ve got two games coming up against teams who, like Gresford, are winless, but we know we can’t afford to take them lightly otherwise we’ll get done. “We said before Friday’s game that top-eight wasn’t good enough. We’re sixth now, but we don’t want to stop there.” Free-scoring Mold Alexandra are also looking up after they recorded their first home victory of the season on Friday night by sweeping aside neighbours Mynydd Isa 4-2. Hitmen Stuart Hayes and Dave Pitson bagged braces for the 10th-placed hosts, with Anthony Williams offering the off-colour away side’s replies from the penalty spot. Mold boss Danny Seamarks, who, other than Gary Burns, has a fully fit squad for tomorrow’s trip to Llandyrnog (2.30pm) and Wednesday’s home clash with fourth-from-bottom Denbigh (7.30pm), said: “We were well worth the win on Friday and only Bala have scored more goals than us now. I’m not happy with the amount we’ve conceded, but to be fair to the defence they’ve not gifted goals away. “I’m looking to get into the top six. We’ve played eight league games now and, apart from Llandudno, no one has caused us a big problem.” Isa, down to eighth, host unbeaten third-placed Lex tomorrow (2.30pm), with angry boss Gareth Thomas promising to ring the changes. Thomas, who welcomes back Ben McKean, Craig Goodwin and Chris Brooks, said: “Friday was simply not good enough and the lads know that. “I’ve got no doubts we’re good enough to beat Lex but our problem is we are just too inconsistent.” Paul Davies has a defensive headache for in-form Flint Town United’s next match, which comes at home to faltering Ruthin on Tuesday (7.30pm), as centre-backs Mike Parry and Stefan Halewood will be unavailable. The fifth-placed Silkmen stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight on Friday night with a 2-1 home triumph over Guilsfield, secured by Paul Williams and a wonder-strike from 10-goal top-scorer Shaun Beck. Davies said: “We’re going to be a bit short at the back so we’ll just have to give Ruthin something to worry about at the other end. “Shaun’s goal was absolutely brilliant and if there’s a better player in this league then I’m yet to see him.” |
