Cymru Alliance – Mold end barren home run

MOLD Alexandra recorded their first home victory of the season on Friday night as they won a thrilling derby at home to Mynydd Isa 4-2.

The promoted Alyn Park outfit, who have been so impressive on the road, dominated the first half and deservedly led 3-1 at the interval.

Top-scorer Stuart Hayes, who was presented with the league’s player of the month award before the match, broke the deadlock with a lovely chip and added his second from out wide after Dave Pitson finished coolly.

Isa, for whom Stuart Wood had earlier missed a good chance to equalise, were handed a lifeline two minutes before the break when Gavin Williams was adjudged to have pushed Barry Calder over in the box.

Anthony Williams converted the penalty and then repeated the trick midway through the second half.

But Isa, for whom Sam Pugh hit the woodwork before Williams’ second successful spot-kick, were killed off 17 minutes from time when Pitson converted Terry Pughe’s corner. And had it not been for the post, the hardworking striker would have celebrated a hat-trick.

Flint Town United are now eight games without defeat after their 2-1 home win over Guilsfield.

Paul Williams and Shaun Beck were on target for the fifth-placed Silkmen, who are level on points with Buckley Town, whose own fine form continued with a 2-0 home triumph over struggling Gresford.

Alan Dawson, with a neat finish, opening the scoring for the sixth-placed Trotters, for whom winger Joe Garner impressed, before Jamie Rogers took Mark Roberts’ pass to complete a flowing breakaway late on.
