SIMON Sedgwick is aiming to put one over his old manager tomorrow when Buckley Town entertain high-flying Ruthin (2.30pm). Sedgwick ended a success- laden first spell with the Trotters four years ago to become assistant to Adie Jones at Colwyn Bay. Although his desire to return to being a number one ensured the partnership didn’t last long, the pair remain great friends and will meet again at Globe Way. Jones’ third-placed visitors will be favourites having won all three of their away league games. But the Buckley boss, whose ninth-placed men were knocked out of the League Cup after undeservedly going down 1-0 at Guilsfield on Sunday, is confident that record will come to an end tomorrow. Sedgwick, who welcomes back Jamie McNeil, Andy Kendrick and Sean Dodd but is without Chris Knowles and Steve Cowap, said: “We know we’ll be up against a team who’ve had a good start and who’ve got a manager with lots of experience, but I’ve every confidence we can win if we play to our best.” Flint Town United are Flintshire’s sole representatives in the second round of the League Cup after they sent struggling Glantraeth packing 4-0 on Saturday, with youth-team product Paul Williams, stand- in skipper Shaun Beck (2) and Darren Johnson getting the goals. Paul Davies’ seventh-placed Silkmen entertain 13th-placed Denbigh tomorrow (2.30pm). Boss Davies, who adds Stefan Halewood, Ian Parry and Phil Lloyd to his squad, said: “Three points is vital as we can’t afford to slip too far behind the likes of Bala, Holyhead and Ruthin.” Mynydd Isa make their way to second-placed Holyhead tomorrow (2.30pm) hurting after Saturday’s League Cup first- round 3-2 home loss to Llandudno. Gareth Thomas’ fifth-placed team paid the price for a first- half horror spell in which Craig Goodwin was sent-off, with second-half strikes from substitutes Phil Coffin and Chris Brooks not enough to prevent them from crashing to a defeat which came hot on the heels of their Welsh Cup exit at the hands of tomorrow’s hosts. Boss Thomas, who brings in Stuart Wood, Barry Calder, Tom Price, Stuart McIntosh and the returning Neil Wynne from Airbus UK Broughton but is without Ben Jones and the banned Goodwin, said: “We’ll be playing in the league week in, week out now and we’ve got to try and put a run of wins together.” Mold Alexandra were beaten 4-2 on Saturday by Holyhead, who played 68 minutes of the match with one man more after Craig Roberts was red-carded for a handball on the line. The 11th-placed hosts, for whom Owain Roberts struck twice, had no complaints with the decision but felt goalkeeper James Collins was fouled in the build-up to the incident. The defeat leaves Danny Seamarks’ side still waiting for their first win at Alyn Park as they head to 10th-placed Guilsfield tomorrow (2.30pm). Boss Seamarks, at full strength other than the suspended Craig Roberts, said: “We just don’t seem to be having any luck at the moment but the positive is we more than matched a team who are second in the league.” |
