Deeside Sunday League – Brothers work it out for Foxes

Oct 3 2008

by Paul Wheelock, Flintshire Chronicle

BROTHERS Simon and Dave Holloway swept Cross Foxes to their first Division One victory of the season.

Simon fired three and Dave two in the 6-1 home success over Boar’s Head, whose reply came courtesy of Stuart Wood. Mike Berry was also on target for Foxes.

Marsh Lane maintained their 100% winning record with a 2-1 triumph over Castle Inn secured by Johnny Noble, who scored either side of Dave Gleave’s effort for the hosts.

AFC George let a two-goal lead slip and were held to a 4-4 home draw by Abbots Arms, for whom Tony Hogan and hat-trick ace Ben Lewis were the heroes. Gareth Wynn, Ian Taylor (2) and Danny Henley netted for George.

Bridge Inn got off the mark with a 3-2 win at Gillespies.

Ewloe Social Club’s flying start to Division Two continued as they won 3-0 at Cross Keys.

Alan Evans (3) was the star of the show.

Shane Parry also hit a hat-trick as table-topping Wepre Inn left Boar’s Head as 3-0 winners.

Melrose, through Phillip Shelbourne, John Faulkner, Mike Hopkinson (2 inc pen) and Carl Thomas, got up and running with a 5-1 romp at Mill Tavern, who had levelled the contest early in the second half through Simon Williams’ free kick.

Red Hall edged a nine-goal thriller at home to Red Lion Strollers 6-3 thanks to Lee Cousins (3 inc pen), Kevin Smart (pen), Aled Hoosen and Scott Ellis. Nathan Lavender, Dave Littler and Richard Chapman got the Strollers strikes.

Blue Bell’s domination of Division Three continued as they powered to a 10-0 home whitewash of Royal Oak.

Hitman Chris Forshaw did most of the damage with a double hat-trick, with Danny Sullivan, Matty Armstrong, Karl Thomas and Greg Walker also getting in on the act.

The Leprechaun are second after their 4-2 home win over Potters Wheel, given to them by Johnny Hill, Tom Bennett and Johnny Crossley (2). Luke Baker (2) got Wheel’s responses.

Swan also won 4-2, at Bar Lloyd, who were one up at the break through Jay Edwards (2). But Mark Hanegan, Dai Jones and Ben Cheesborough added to Phil Rogers’ first-half goal to swing it Swan’s way.

Second-half strikes from Bryn Roberts and Sean Parker earned The Burntwood a 2-1 victory at Hare & Hounds, who broke the deadlock through Graham Massey.

Division Two’s Flint RBL booked their place in the second round of the NWCFA Sunday Challenge Cup with a 2-1 home triumph over Division Three’s Mountain Park.

Lee Breeze, with a 20-yard free kick, won it late on for Flint after Anthony Owen’s header cancelled out Daniel Massey’s 20-yard lob.

Division One’s Red Lion suffered a second-half collapse as they went down 4-3 to Rhyl Rugby Club. Adrian Cross and Dave Williams (2) found the net for the home side.
