Deeside Sunday League – George pile the pressure on Marsh

Oct 10 2008

by Paul Wheelock, Flintshire Chronicle

AFC George closed the gap on Division One leaders Marsh Lane with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Castle Inn.

Ross Thomas was the home side’s match-winner after Lee Reynolds and Andy Hoddent (2) cancelled out Gary Wynne, Kevin Thomas and Karl Griffiths efforts.

David Holloway fired five goals as Cross Foxes won 6-4 at home to Red Lion to move up to third behind the George.

Matthew Bennett was also on target for Foxes, with Steven Stokes, Tim Jones (2) and David Williams (pen) taking Lion close.

Division Three pacesetters Blue Bell suffered their first defeat of the season as they went down 4-1 at Mountain Park.

Previously winless Park had the game wrapped up by half-time thanks to Lee Messham and Jonathon Taylor. Karl Thomas reduced the deficit before Messham completed his hat-trick.

Potters Wheel and The Leprechaun shared an entertaining 5-5 draw, with John Davies, Rob Roberts (2), Gary Patavino and Gary Buxton rescuing a point for the hosts after Leprechaun led 3-0 and then 5-2 through Johnny Hill, Johnny Crossley, Tom Bennett and Carl Wilson (2).

Every other fixture was washed out due to the heavy overnight rain.
