TOM Owen capped a man-of-the- match display by rescuing a 3-3 draw for Bridge Inn at home to Castle Inn in Division One. Castle were two up through Wayne Craig, Ashley Lewis and Paul Higgins before goalkeeper Kev King denied them a fourth from the penalty spot. Paulo Gausto, adding to Simon Roden’s free kick, then reduced the deficit for Bridge before Owen ensured honours ended even from 25 yards. Fellow high flyers Cross Foxes and AFC George also drew 3-3, with Lee Taylor (2) and Gaz Jones earning the visitors a share of the spoils after Leon Hughes, Simon Holloway and Ryan Davies put Foxes into a commanding lead. Boar’s Head, thanks to Stuart Hayes, Chris Guy and Paul Jones, won 3-1 at home to Red Lion Holy- well, who replied through Tim Jones. Table-topping Adhoc Marsh Lane booked their place in the second round of the Queensferry Sports Challenge Cup with a 2-1 victory at top-flight rivals Abbots Arms. Alan Murphy was Marsh’s match- winner after Terry Jones deservedly cancelled out Dean Hughes’ opener. Division Two pacesetters Wepre Inn maintained their 100% winning start to the campaign with a 2-1 triumph at previously-unbeaten Ewloe Social Club. Rob Gibbons brought Ewloe level after Brynley Preece broke the deadlock, only for Steven Blair to swing the top-of-the-table clash Wepre’s way. Braces from Mike Hopkinson and Gary McConnell saw Melrose to a 4-2 home win over Flint RBL, who had a double star of their own in Gwyn Bartley-Jones. Boar’s Head Ewloe, courtesy of a Tom McIneal hat-trick, came from behind to draw 3-3 at Cross Keys Buckley, who were cruising through Charlie Barton (2) and Chris Miles. Kevin Smart, with a 25-yarder and a penalty won by substitute Alex Thomas, was Red Hall’s two-goal hero in their 2-1 home victory over Mill Tavern, who led through Dale Lovett. Division Three leaders Blue Bell returned to winning ways by edging a thriller at home to Potters Wheel 4-2. James Antrobus, the league’s leading goalscorer Chris Forshaw, Nick Jones and Karl Thomas shared the strikes for Blue Bell, with Luke Baker and Gary Patavino taking Potters close. Star man Jamie Edwards (3), Richard Hughes (2, inc pen) and Jack Wingett, with a 30-yard cracker, did the damage as Bar Lloyd got off the mark with a 6-0 home success over Royal Oak Greenfield. Star man Tom Bennett fired five and Johnny Crossley three in The Leprechaun’s 8-1 home rout of Swan Gwernymynydd, for whom Wayne Lee netted a consolation. Mountain Park, after stunning Blue Bell, were brought back down to earth as they, at the hands of Graham Massey (2) and James Davies (2), fell 4-0 at home to Hare & Hounds. |
