International – Rachel is ready for Romania
International – Rachel is ready for Romania

ONE of Flintshire’s most promising girl footballers is fully fit following a long-term injury and ready to help Wales to the UEFA European Under 17s Women’s Championship.

Rachel Fisher, of Mynydd Isa, will be in the squad for the Principality’s qualifying triple-header in Romania next week.

The 15-year-old Argoed High School student and her national team-mates will take on the hosts, Croatia and Spain in a bid to win Group Nine and book their second qualifying round place.

Tranmere Rovers full-back Rachel – the great-great-granddaughter of Everton’s legendary ex-England international Jimmy Settle, who scored 97 goals in 269 appearances for the Toffees between 1899 and 1908 – is raring to go after suffering a metatarsal problem.

Holywell’s Joshua Evans is fresh back from representing Wales Under 16s in two friendlies against their French counterparts.

The youngster was part of the squad that went down fighting at Llanelli’s Stebonheath Park and Newport County’s Spytty Park.

Tranmere keeper John Achterberg is holding a goalkeeping course for young Flintshire stoppers.

The eight-week course, taking place every Wednesday from October 29, is for boys and girls aged between five and 16 and is held at Flint Town United’s Cae Y Castell ground from 5.30- 6.30pm, costing £40.

If you are interested, call Achterberg on 07812706311 or Richard Millington on 01352 732100. For more information, visit www.johnachterberg. com
