STEVE O’Shaughnessy is asking for more of the same from his table-topping Gap Connah’s Quay side when they welcome unbeaten Aberystwyth to the Deeside Stadium tomorrow (2.30pm).

Nomads made it two wins from two on Saturday as, inspired by Liam Loughlin and featuring new midfielder from Caernarfon Peter Doran, they won 5-0 at home to 10-man Neath to move into pole position.

Tommy Mutton, with his first goal since returning to the club, opened the floodgates before the influential Danny Forde and substitute Aden Shannon bagged braces.

O’Shaughnessy, who welcomes Christian Courtney back tomorrow but has doubts over Paul Dowridge and Michael Cronshaw, is buoyed by the start, but is refusing to rest on his laurels.

The boss, who takes Nomads to Prestatyn in Group Six of the Loosemores Challenge Cup on Tuesday (7.30pm), said: “We’ve got to be pleased with the way we’ve gone about things but there is still room for improvement. I thought we were excellent up to 3-0 on Saturday but after their man was sent-off we lost concentration. But, overall, our lads stood up and played very well.

“We’ve got another difficult test on Saturday. We’ve just got to try and do what we did against Neath – that’s be confident, pass the ball around well and match them physically.

“Two wins form two is impressive, but if we get beat in the next two games we won’t be where we are now, so the message to the lads is to keep being consistent because we have other lads who are ready to take their places.”

Competition is also the key for Airbus UK Broughton boss Craig Harrison, who, despite seeing the Wingmakers get their season up-and-running with a 1-0 victory at Newtown on Saturday courtesy of Tom Rowlands, has made another addition to his squad ahead of tonight’s visit of winless Caernarfon to the Airfield (7.30pm).

James McIntosh, having left for Colwyn Bay in the summer, has made a swift return to the club where is the record top-flight goalscorer.

Former Middlesbrough star Harrison said: “He’s a proven goalscorer in this league and he gives me another option up front. I’ve always wanted five forwards, but now that I’ve got them I’ve got to find a way of keeping them all happy.

“But that’s the same for the rest of the squad. We’ve got a large pool of players to choose from so I know some lads aren’t going to be happy.

“I missed out on squads and teams in my playing career and I know it hurts, but I also know it should make a player even more determined to keep their place when they get the chance. That’s the type of player I want.”

Leigh Craven has joined Llandudno but Harrison hopes to replace the midfielder with free agent Craig Garside, who is being chased by a host of clubs.

John Davies and Gary Lovell are back tonight but Ashley Williams is out for a month with ankle ligament damage and Gareth Caughter is still troubled by a foot injury while Marc Cadwallader is banned.

Cadwallader’s late sending-off at Newtown marred an otherwise impressive performance by the midfielder, with Wes Kilgannon and debutant goalkeeper Phil Palethorpe also standing out.
