Nomads fuming over Welshpool moves

10:20, Sep 29 2008

by Paul Wheelock, Flintshire Chronicle

GAP Connah’s Quay have lodged a complaint with the FAW after Welsh Premier League rivals Technogroup Welshpool attempted to recruit two of their players.

The Lilywhites served seven days notice of approach for striker Aden Shannon and then applied for international clearance to bring defender Paul Dowridge from Blacon Youth Club back to Maesydre.

Dowridge had been released by Nomads at his own request to join the West Cheshire League outfit so they were furious when they discovered Welshpool were in for him and believe it as alleged attempt on their part to circumvent FAW rules which state no club can sign two players from the same club within 28 days.

Dowridge, who along with Shannon arrived at the Deeside Stadium in the summer, is expected to complete his transfer today subject to international clearance.

But Shannon, who also had offers from Caersws and neighbours Airbus UK Broughton, is remaining at Nomads.

Last season’s Players’ Player of the Year Tommy Baker has left for Runcorn Linnets in a view to returning in January, while Sam McNutt is unlikely to be involved in the immediate future having decided to commit more time to his work with Bolton Wanderers’ Football in the Community programme.

Promising young left-back Phil Killa has also resisted overtures from clubs lower down the Welsh footballing pyramid to remain with Nomads.
