NOMADS got their Loosemores Challenge Cup campaign up and running last night with a well-deserved victory at the Welsh Premier League new boys. Steve O’Shaughnessy’s side, having lost their Group Six opener to The New Saints, bounced back thanks to recent recruit Andy Alston. The defender, partnering his brother Ben in the centre of defence, rose highest to powerfully head home a corner 10 minutes before the break. On-loan Wrexham goalkeeper Chris Maxwell then ensured the points went the away side’s way with a fine save from Steve Bowes. Nomads boss O’Shaughnessy – who started the returning Craig Garside and threw captain Gary Pinch’s younger brother Danny on for his senior debut – said: “It was a good game and I was really pleased with the result. “We made five changes to the side that lost on Saturday because I want to keep the lads who have not been getting a run out in the league fresh and sharp and put pressure on the lads who have got the shirts.” STAR MAN: Liam Loughlin. Prestatyn: Dunt, A Davies, Lewis, Hayes, Duffy, Parker, Evans (Hoult 60), Hannen (Gibson 60), Griffiths, Harris, Bowes (Davies 85). Sub: Woodfine.
