Rugby union – Mold at their Sunday best

Oct 10 2008

by Paul Wheelock, Flintshire Chronicle

MOLD Youth produced their best result of the season so far on Sunday when they inflicted a first defeat of the campaign on previous pacesetters Stockport Youth.

Rob Hallard and Richard Strong went over for tries and Ollie Jenner and Owen Youd added penalties in a 16-12 away win which leaves the Chester Road aces just three points off top spot in the Halbro Colts League Senior A.

Adam Campbell scored Mold Under 15s’ try in their 7-7 draw with Bridgnorth U15s.

Mold U13s were not at their brilliant best but continued their winning ways with a 28-5 home victory over Nant Conwy U13s secured by ace Josh Marrs’ four tries and conversions by Aled Lloyd- Davies (2) and Simon Roberts (2).

Mold U7s could not be beaten in their three games at Lymm U7s, edging the first 7-6, drawing the second 6-6 and then romping home 8-0 in the third. Hotshot Ellis Cannon (6), Dion Jones (4), William Roberts (3), Lewis Millington (3), Alun Evans (2), Ifan Bryon (2) and Ieuan Evans crashed over.

Mold U8s were also in action at Lymm U8s, winning their matches 4-3 and 5-3. Harry Taylor (2), Ben Beaver, Tim James, Rhys Messham, Daniel Williamson, Charlie Prebble, Harry Taylor and Tom James crossed the whitewash.

Flint Under 14s’ flying start to the season continued on Sunday as they sneaked it 22-21 at Birkenhead Park U14s courtesy of Connor Kendrick’s last-gasp effort.

The man of the match picked up a loose ball in his own 22 before running the length of the pitch to go over under the posts for a try which Chris Bains converted.

Flint had trailed but, thanks to a storming second- half display by their forwards, fought back with two touchdowns from Danny Langford and one from Luke Williams.

Flint U15s sent Ellesmere Port U15s packing 91-0.

Star boy Dom Harrison scored five of the 15 tries – three of which followed superb runs from in his own 22 – with the rest shared between Afon Bagshaw (3), Ben Roberts (2), Max Davies, Tom Prydderch, Liam Green, Tom Rowlands and Sam Parry, who added conversions along with Damian Goss, Afon, Tom Rowlands, Billy Forrester and Morgan Bagshaw.
