MOLD warmed up for their mini-rugby tournament at Chester Road this coming Sunday with a series of stunning displays at Marple on Sunday. The Under 7s won their games 10-1 and 11-1 with tries from Oliver Jones (5), William Roberts (5), Dion Jones (4), Lewis Millington (2), Alun Evans and man-of-the-match Thomas Chamberlain (2) while Harry Taylor (4), Daniel Williamson (3), Macsen Evans (2), Rhys Messham, Tom James, Tom Haliday, Charlie Prebble and MoM Ben Beaver (2) touched down as the U8s recorded 9-1 and 6-1 victories. Mold U9s’ fine form continued with 5-1 and 6-2 triumphs secured by Morgan Johnson (5), Thomas Bartley (2), Connor Bishop (2) and MoM Owen Millington (2), who starred along with Kieran Roberts, playing as both a forward and as a back, and winger Jack Webster. The U10s, through hat-trick hero Niall Roberts (3), Freddy Jones and Harry Hookes, swept aside their Cheshire hosts 5-1 before more excellent teamwork saw them fight back to draw their second clash 3-3 through Jonathon Phillips, Harry Webster and Harry Hookes. The U11s were convincing 42-7 winners courtesy of tries from Mark Hanson, Tyler Bridges, Ieuan Vaughan, Ethan Roberts (2) and Henry Jones and three conversions each from Tyler and Jacob Collin. Clayton Rawsthorn, who was unlucky not to score, was named most improved player of the weekend for his strong running. Ieuan, Owen Jones and Michael Gordon also gave Marple’s defence trouble while Ieuan Evans, Rhys Samuel and Matthew Chadwick were in dominating forward form. Mold’s U12s, led by captain Ben Wynne, powered to a 66-0 success with scores from Andrew Hayler (3), Tomos Williams (2), Owen Thomp- son, Elliot Williams, George Godwin, Nathaniel Tite and Dylan Rowe and conversions from Elliot (5) and Owen (3). Flint Under 9s continued their flying start on Sunday with a 7-3 victory over Colwyn Bay U9s. Callum Challinor (2) and Ross Settle put Flint in control before captain Billy Alderson (2) and Zach Ashley got in on the act. Man-of-the- match Jonathan Brown, along with Jacob Evans and Ross Andrews, kept Bay at bay. |
