Deeside Sunday League

CROSS Keys stay in second place with a 4-2 win at Hare and Hounds - making up for the fact Division One leaders Marsh Lane did not have a game on Sunday.

The home side raced into a 2-0 lead through Jonathon Hill and Mark Sullivan before they were reduced to 10 men.

Cross Keys then took advantage of their numeric supremacy to pull level by the break with goals from Stephen Cartwright and Stephen Hughes. They continued after the interval when Craig Riley and Stephen Hughes again, added to their total to take them within one point of the leaders.

Carlton Club took all the points in their 2-1 win at George and Dragon to keep level points in third place. Chris Larsen gave them the lead on 27 minutes, only for Lee Taylor to get the George level after 36 minutes.

This score remained until the hour mark when a superb 25-yard volley from Wayne Craig wrapped up all the points.

Boar's Head remain in fourth thanks to a 2-1 success at home to Red Lion, Holywell. Wes Brereton opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half. Dave Pitson increased their advantage in the second before Danny Boaz got a consolation for Red Lion.

Two teams at the lower end of the table met at Holywell High where hosts Abbot's Arms defeated the Red Lion Strollers 5-2.

Mike Poole and Craig Griffiths scored for the Abbots in the first 45 with Mathew Holmes replying. After the break Mike Poole again, Sam Jones and Adam Lewis did enough to get the points with Steve McKrieth getting a consolation for the Strollers.

In Division Two Glan-yr-Afon kept the pressure on top spot with a 4-1 win over visitors Plough Inn. Danny Henley got the only goal of the opening half for the hosts and then completed his hat-trick in the second, one from 40 yards direct from the kick-off. His brother Gareth completed Glan's scoring before substitute Neil Bloxham netted for the visitors.

Black Lion beat their local rivals, Hope and Anchor, 5-0 at Buckley Sports Centre. Black Lion opened up a 4-0 lead by the break through Chris Geary, Dixon Wake, Jamie Higgins and Tommy Jones with a spot kick. Hope and Anchor had a better second period and restricted Black Lion to another Chris Geary effort.

At the other end of the table Melrose took all the points with a 5-3 home win over Blue Anchor. Dean Duncan and Scott Skeen netted in the first half with Shane Cliffe getting Blue Anchor's reply. After the interval Gary Mc-Connell, Mattie Jordan and a Dave Smith penalty secured the points despite efforts from Andy Morris and Paul Worrell.

Mill Tavern kept in touch with the leading pack thanks to a 7-2 home win over Crown and Liver. A Craig Rush double, Simon Whitaker and Chris Burke enabled Mill to go in 4-0 ahead at the break. Simon Whitaker added another after the interval before Scott Hargreaves and Leon Bowen put Crown and Liver on the scoreboard. Mark Poynton then made it six before Simon Whitaker completed his hat-trick with five minutes left.

There is a new leader of Division Three - White Bear after their 2-0 home victory against Bridge Inn. Both goals came in the second period through Paul Roberts and Ryan Dunn.

The previous leaders, Stag Inn dropped to third following a 4-3 defeat to their visitors, Boot Inn. Stag took the initiative with an Alex Walpole strike before Boot hit back with Jamie Banks and then a Neil Wynne hat-trick before the change over. After the break Stag replied with goals from Brett Jones and Sean Jones but in an end-to-end game could not salvage a point.

Queen's Head moved up one place to second following their 4-0 victory at Coach and Horses.

The match was decided in a 10-minute spell in the first half when all the goals were scored. A Dafydd Griffiths double, Mike Roberts and an own-goal from Coach's Rob Thelwell did the damage. Apparently this was Rob Thelwell's third own-goal of the campaign.
