Seasiders sink hopes of revenge

Nov 3 2006

Llandudno

Llandudno 2 Flint Town 1

THE home side repeated their Welsh Cup win over Dai Beck's side with a brace of second-half goals.

Flint looked the more likely side as they went out for Welsh Cup revenge and took a deserved lead through a Chris Boulton strike on eight minutes.

And, but for the heroics of home goalkeeper Kevin Coleville, the points could have been on their way back along the coast well before half-time.

Flint goalkeeper Chris Hughes also pulled off some stunning saves, denying Lee Thomas before he was finally beaten twice in a four-minute spell midway through the second half.

First Thomas struck home a Craig Hogg cross before Joe Morgan fired the winner.

Flint boss Dai Beck was philosophical about the defeat and says he hopes to get back to winning ways this weekend.

He said: 'Their keeper played a blinder and the wind played a big part, too. But no excuses, we lost and that's it.'

Flint can move back to the top of the league tomorrow when they travel to Gresford as both Bala and Buckley Town are otherwise engaged with the Welsh Cup.

Beck said: 'We have signed midfielder Paul Davies who spent 10 years at Everton and two at Blackpool. He has just been released by Runcorn and will make his debut at Gresford.

'They gave us a really good game at our place a couple of weeks ago and we know it will be tough.' nFlint have a home game against Llangefni in the North Wales Coast Cup on Tuesday, kick-off 7.30pm.

Buckley Town 3 Ruthin Town 1

THE Trotters turned up the heat on fierce rivals Bala and Flint at the top of the league despite not being at their best.

The Globe Way men got off to a near perfect start with Rob White's well-struck free kick opening the scoring on four minutes.

Dave Taylor's side then had a host of chances to see off the challenge of struggling Ruthin but failed to take them.

They paid the penalty early in the second half after Andy Roberts was allowed a clear run at goal to slide the ball past Andy Hughes.

However, the home side upped the tempo and Darren Williams could only watch as he deflected a Kevin Breeze cross into his own goal.

Breeze then wrapped up the points with a solo effort with virtually the last kick of the game.

A relieved Taylor said: 'We didn't play well but I have to be happy with nine points, nine goals and just two against in seven days.' nMYNYDD Isa had no match last weekend but host Guilsfield tomorrow in a game they need to win if they are to keep in touch with the leading pack.
