THE SUCCESS of the new P&O Flintshire ferry service to Dublin has put Mostyn on the map. The port of Mostyn, which has undergone a £17m expansion with a roll-on, roll-off terminal and new berth, has been hailed a massive success and is now being included on the Ordnance Survey map of the area. Mostyn P&O terminal manager William Calderbank said business is growing by the day and night-time freight crossings from the port are now fully booked until after Christmas. The sailings are also carrying between 50 and 100 foot passengers every day, with some switching from the Holyhead ferries. "More people are learning about the new service all the time," he said. "There's been a lot of interest shown, especially from locals. "We've had so many people coming down just to have a look around, we've completely run out of brochures." The 20-acre terminal has speed-check in, customer lounges, CCTV and first-class vehicle-parking facilities. Mr Calderbank said the company had not had any complaints from service-users about traffic problems on the A548, and all feedback from customers had been positive. "Sailing times do not coincide with peak traffic times, so the issue has not been raised and doesn't appear to be a problem," he said. The European Envoy leaves Mostyn at 11am each day and the Ambassador departs at 11.30pm. The Ambassador returns to the port from Dublin at 7.30pm and the Envoy at 5.30am, Mondays to Saturdays. |
