Ferry giant gets ready for first Dublin voyage

Nov 2 2001

Chronicle Newspapers

FERRY giant P&O has begun promoting its service from Mostyn Docks to Dublin.

Work is going according to plan and a company spokeswoman said the first ship, which will either be the European Ambassador or the Envoy, will sail out of Mostyn on November 19.

"Work is still continuing at the moment, we plan to have the official opening after Christmas," said the P&O spokeswoman.

"But we're expecting the service to be up and running in November, and have already started promoting it in the national press," she added.

Company chiefs say the port of Mostyn, which is currently undergoing a £17 million expansion with a roll-on roll-off terminal and a deeper dock for ships carrying freight, is in an ideal location to cut the crossing time by one and half hours.

The journey to Ireland will take about six hours and will be suitable for freight and car passengers.

Businesses are preparing to cash in on the passing trade as the Ambassador, carrying 405 passengers and 375 vehicles, and the Envoy, which has space for 70 passengers and 120 vehicles, bring tourist flocking through Flintshire.
