A WHOLE host of activities and events are planned later this month to celebrate Wales Biodoversity Week. Hosted by the Wales Biodiversity Group, the Week runs from August 26 to September 1. It will focus on local biodiversity while world politicians discuss international biodiversity as part of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa. The local Biodiversity Action Groups across Wales, and Wales Biodiversity Week provides opportunities for everyone to learn about their local wildlife and why it is under threat and what action to take to safeguard this rich and valuable resource across Wales. Four local biodiversity action plans will also be launched in Torfaen, Merthyr Tydfil, Blaenau Gwent and Ceredigion. Other groups are holding week long activities including a Wildlife Week in Conwy, and the Biodiversity Exhibition at the National Botanical Gardens of Wales in Carmarthenshire. There is also a garden party planned in Wrexham, a bat walk in the Vale of Glamorgan, and "Moth Magic" at Kenfig National Nature Reserve near Bridgend. Howie Watkins is in residence in South Wales hosting a variety of biodiversity events as part of the Neath Port Talbot Sustainable Development Week. |
