AN Anglesey holiday park has been honoured by Professor David Bellamy for its pioneering work to protect the natural world. The Tyddyn Isaf Camping and Caravan Park in Lligwy Bay, according to the world famous botanist, had created a wildlife wonderland and was a worthy winner of his annual conservation award for environmental excellence. The accolade, made at its top Gold level to Tyddyn Isaf, is part of an award scheme described by David Bellamy as the Green Olympics for Britain s holiday park industry. For Wendy and John Hunt and Beverly and Arthur Mount who run the 16 acre park and its 32 acres of land plus sites for 50 privately owned luxury holiday homes, the award comes as recognition for more than 25 years work to create one of W ales's top-rated camping and caravan parks. But the park is not just for human visitors, its permanent residents include many different bird and animal species after being attracted by the natural habitats which have been created for them over the years. An eight acre woodland of indigenous trees was planted by the owners nearly ten years ago and a two acre wildflower meadow has helped to increase the number of plants, insects and butterflies which flourish and become part of the wildlife cycle of the park. For bird lovers, the park gives twitchers the chance to spot rare species. "Our aim from the outset has been to create a park where holidaymakers could experience the pleasuers of the countryside and enjoy a traditional beach holiday," said Arthur Mount. |
