Find out where the best beaches are
Find out where the best beaches are

Kath Evans, icNorthWales

EVERYONE has their favourite beach, but if you're looking for ideas about where you can enjoy sun, sea and sand, cleanliness and safety are probably top priorities.

Two awards schemes publish the results of their beach inspections.

The Marine Conservation Society produces the Good Beach Guide and can be found at www.goodbeachguide.co.uk.

They demand very high standards, but their website is not very informative as far details of Welsh beaches are concerned.

More comprehensive listings are available from the Tidy Britain Group who run the Seaside Awards for resort beaches and rural beaches. See www.seasideawards.org.uk.

Their site also includes beaches which meet the stringent Blue Flag criteria.

To find out more about the Blue Flag Campaign, a Europe-wide scheme, visit www.blueflag.org.

Anglesey probably has the largest number of recommended beaches, many of them in rural locations.

The Gwynedd coastal beaches are very beautiful, too, while the North Wales coast from Talacre to Llanfairfechan has more of the traditional resort town beaches, with lots of shops and other facilities close by.
