ANGLESEY has gained another impressive haul of awards for its beaches, which are among the finest in the whole of Britain. A total of 26 beaches on the island have been praised for their high bathing water quality by the Environmental Campaign's Seaside Awards and Blue Flag Campaign. The awards presented by the environment charity, Encams, also recognise high standards in terms of beach management, including first aid provision, access for disabled visitors and clean toilets. Anglesey's award beaches include Llanddwyn, Trearddur Bay, Benllech and Cemaes Bay, and equate to an impressive 8% of the total 317 awards handed out across the UK. Anglesey County Council's Chief Environmental Health Officer, Tony Burgess, said: "These 26 awards represent more than a quarter of all the seaside awards presented in Wales. "Our coastline is one of our most precious resources and news of yet more awards will hopefully encourage tourists back to the island following last year's foot and mouth crisis."
