The top 10 attractions in North Wales

By Kath Evans, icNorthWales

Portmeirion

North Wales has some spectacular and varied tourist attractions, not least of these being the mountains, valleys and coastline. But which are the most popular?

The Wales Tourist Board tourist attractions survey has identified the top 10 most visited attractions in the region for 2000.

Swallow Falls

They only include those with an admission charge, so beaches and beauty spots are generally out of the picture, as are museums and galleries with free entry.

As might be expected, there are four castles in the top 10, as well as the grand country properties of Bodnant and Erddig, but way out in the lead is the fantasy village of Portmeirion, with almost a quarter of a million visitors in 2000.

Caernarfon Castle

Llechwedd Caverns

Click on each attraction listed below to find out more about it. On the other hand, if you want to avoid the crowds, explore some of the dozens of alternative options described in the icNorthWales Tourism and travel channel.
