BMW has devised a clever way of making its cars even more desirable by bundling some of its more popular stand-alone items for which it is charging significantly less than if they were bought separately. In the case of the BMW 1 Series models they are referred to as Edition versions. The 1 Series Edition ES models come in 116i and 118d guises with a price hike of £250 to include 17-inch star-spoke alloy wheels, sport seats covered in upgraded cloth upholstery, three-spoke multi-function leather steering wheel and front fog lights, which would cost a total of £1,340 if specified separately on a standard ES model. They join the standard line-up of models which now includes the 1 Series hatchback and Coupe, the 3 Series Saloon, Touring, Coupe, Convertible and sporty M3 Saloon and Coupe, the 5 series Saloon and Touring, 6 Series Coupe and Convertible, 7 Series executive Saloon, Z4 Coupe and Roadster plus the 4x4 X3 and X5 models. Latest to join the line-up is the X6 4x4 model, which costs from £41,965 rising to £44,145 for the 150mph xDrive35d model. Although BMW has built its reputation on sportiness the company is also gaining a good image for environmental-friendliness because of its Efficient Dynamics programme that is responsible for cars that squeeze every ounce of efficiency from every drop of fuel. The vehicles in the company’s extensive line-up are all very different but the one thing they share is superior quality and the unrivalled residual values that make them worth investing in as premium products when new. |
