JUST one day of fundraising in Holyhead raised an extraordinary £22,000 for terminally ill children. The Stena Line charity golf tournament was held at Holyhead Golf Club in May and the funds have just been counted up and handed over to Hope House Children’s Hospices last week. It was after the success of last year’s event, which raised £20,000, that the ferry company decided to hold it again on May 22, with 20 major sponsors lending support. The day began with the tournament, followed by dinner, a raffle, auction and evening entertainment at the Trearddur Bay Hotel. Vic Goodwin, Stena Line’s route director said: “I am delighted to say that the event was a huge success and we are thrilled with the support we received from our associates that sponsored the event, who came from across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.” Handing over the cheque, Vic added: “Over £22,000 was raised from this event which will of course be utilised in the unique care of special children at both hospices, T Gobaith, near Conwy and Hope House, Oswestry.” Mark Gulesserian from the Trearddur Bay Hotel, one of the event’s main sponsors, said: “We all had a fantastic day at the tournament and everyone had a wonderful evening! “The event was a huge success for the charity as well as Anglesey.” Sarah Kearlsey-Wooler, appeals manager for the hospices added: “Stena Line have been great supporters and it was wonderful to see that even their associates are as keen and willing to jump onboard and support our charity. “Every year,Šover £3.5m has to be raised to ensure the continuity of service for terminally ill children and their families – so the money raised from the golf tournament was and is very much appreciated.” The other main sponsors of the tournament were 3663, AON, ASH Search & Selection, Authentic Foods, Dublin Port, Durastic Limited, Eversheds LLP, Johnson Diversey, Jones Bros, Kraft Foods, Mercer, MPE, Northwall Dover Ltd, Ro Ro Services, Royal Haskoning, Seaking Electrical, The London Meat Company, and Unilever. ffion.jackson |
