A HEARTBROKEN Holyhead mum wants to thank people for their kindness and support since her teenage son was found dead at their former family home. Kim Owens says it has been incredibly touching the way people have gone out of their way to help her family. Her 17-year-old son David John, known as DJ, died on Monday, July 9. He hadn’t arrived home for his tea that night, and Kim sent her other son, 18-year-old Tony, to go and look for him. Later that night, Tony and a passer-by forced the door of their old address on Cambrian Street, and found DJ’s body. Ms Owens said: “We would like to thank everyone for all the phone calls and cards we’ve received and all the floral tributes. “It’s touching how everyone has gone out of their way. So many people have been in touch, it’s amazing how many knew him. Everyone keeps going on about his smile.” Kim said there was a huge turnout at DJ’s funeral, with mourners wishing to say their goodbyes to the teenager. DJ leaves behind two brothers, Tony and Brian, 16, and sister Lisa, 21. Described as a “happy go lucky young man”, he had hoped to get a job on boats, and was also considering a career in the Army. DJ attended Ysgol Coed Menai in Treborth, Bangor, and left in 2005. Kim wanted to give a special thanks to her mum and dad and all the family, Brenda and Ann for arranging the tea, also to John, Marilyn and Matthew Walsh for the funeral arrangements, and Rev Christine Llewellyn for the service. |
