All aboard for charity

Sep 14 2005

by Lee Roberts, North Wales Weekly Newspapers series

A LAND train event in Anglesey has helped raise hundreds of pounds for two good causes.

Last Sunday, Holyhead launched its first land train trip to the breakwater lighthouse, an event that helped raise £316 to be split between Ysbyty Gwynedd's Alaw Ward and the Oesophageal Patients Association.

Jenny Horsford, one of the event organisers said: "Saturday was a washout but everyone made up for it on Sunday.

"One visitor, a grandmother, had lived in Holyhead since she was 16 and she had never been to the lighthouse - she loved it.

"We will continue with weekend running now along with other special planned events.

"The money raised will be split 50% each to the two causes, with money going to the Oesophageal Patients Association going to pay for a broadband service.

"One of the guests was Lynne Watson of the Oesophageal Patients Association who travelled up here for the train," she added.
