Crash victim's memorial stolen

Dec 12 2003

North Wales Weekly News, Llandudno

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after heartless thieves stole a unique memorial dedicated to a man who died inaroad traffic collision.

The memorial was made by a local builder in memory of his friend and placed where he died, at the roadside opposite the entrance to the Plas Maenan Hotel on the A470 at Maenan, near Llanrwst. The hand-built memorial was in the form of a miniature house on a concrete paving slab, with two pitched roofing slates, a roof and small door.

Inside there was room for candles to be lit to illuminate the house in memory of the dead man.

"This sick theft took place at the beginning of November and I am appealing for any information as to the whereabouts of the memorial now," said PC Martin Beardmore.

Anyone who may be able to help locate the memorial is asked to contact Llanrwst Police Station on 0845 607 1002 ext. 5362.
