A BIRD-LOVER who has criticised security around the nest of two rare ospreys yesterday denied causing others to fear that violence would be used after he was allegedly abusive towards RSPB staff and a police wildlife sergeant. Marc Llewelyn Jones, 47, a translator, of Tan y Foel, Bethesda, also pleaded not guilty to common assault at Pwllheli magistrates. The first charge - harassment - includes an allegation that he drove in a manner which caused two people to fear for their safety. Defence solicitor Roger Thomas said it involved a manoeuvre in a car park. The magistrates agreed with the prosecution and defence that they had sufficient power to deal with the case. He was remanded on conditional bail until a pre-trial review on June 29. Bail conditions ban him from going within a mile of the breeding site for the ospreys near Porthmadog or any RSPB-managed site for breeding protected birds. |
