Festival has the recipe for success

Feb 16 2007

By George Tattum, Flintshire Chronicle

THE Flintshire and District National Eisteddfod has received a tasty donation following the highly successful Mold Food Festival.

The cash has come from the town's Hotel and Restaurant Association, which masterminded the gourmet event.

The celebration of good food attracted more than 4,000 visitors, and will be repeated in the autumn.

The Association is chipping £1,050 into the Eisteddfod coffers, which will go towards staging August's Welsh cultural showcase in Mold.

The Eisteddfod will be held on the Pentrehobin estate, on Wrexham Road, Mold, from August 4 to 11.

SelwynEvans, whorunsSiopY Siswrn, in Mold, and is also chairman of the Eisteddfod's finance committee, said: 'We are very grateful for this donation.

'It shows how well supported the Eisteddfod is from all aspects of the community and businesses.'

Greg Shankar, who owns the Bryn Awel Hotel, and is chairman of the Mold Hotel and Restaurant Association, said: 'The 2006 Mold Food Festival was incredibly successful and we wanted to use any profit to help the Eisteddfod as another event which will help increase visitors to the town.'

Anyone interested in joining the association should contact Greg on 01352 758622, ext 200.
