Head has high school hopes

Oct 7 2005

By George Tattum, Flintshire Chronicle

A NEW headteacher is looking forward to meeting as many parents as possible next week.

Simeon Molloy, 38, principal of Argoed High School is hoping for a good turnout at the annual open evening on Tuesday.

Born in Kent, he studied for his BSc in electrical engineering at Bangor University.

During his teacher training course at Bristol, Mr Molloy met his wife Wendy, a primary school teacher. The couple, who live in Betws yn Rhos, have two children, Jacob, six, and Madeline, who is eight weeks old.

Mr Molloy, a former head of Maths at a Southampton school, was deputy head of Prestatyn High School before being appointed head of Argoed High School.

'I only applied for the headship because of Argoed's excellent reputation,' he said.

'The exam results are first class and we have a cracking staff.'

Mr Molloy, who enjoys walking and reading, is looking forward to the challenges ahead at the Argoed, which has 607 pupils on the register, a teaching staff of 40, 16 classroom support staff and 12 ancillary staff.

'New pay and conditions for teachers will mean a restructuring of the school and a number of changes,' he said.

'But I'm sure this will be achieved successfully as we have a very forward looking and hard working staff.

'The whole school community is one that looks to continuously improve its already high standards, both academically and in extra-curricular areas such as music, sport, Young

Enterprise and other clubs.

'I look forward to leading our school on this path.'

Argoed High School's open evening is from 6.30-9pm. george.tattum@cheshirenews.co.uk
