A DOZEN North Wales police officers have been prosecuted for speeding on duty in the past year. They were among more than 100 officers spotted in speeding police cars as part of the controversial Arrive Alive campaign over the past 12 months. Most were answering 999 calls and avoided punishment. The figures are likely to bring further embarrassment to Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom, who has branded speeders "criminals" and "anti-social". One incident was so serious it resulted in a disciplinary hearing by North Wales Police. A further eight incidents are still being processed, which could bring the guilty number to 20. The figures do not include off duty officers and support staff caught speeding in non-police vehicles. They were caught by Arrive Alive fixed cameras and mobile vans or by traffic police officers. Arrive Alive spokeswoman Beth Mitcheson said: "During the last 12 months in North Wales, 102 police vehicles were caught speeding. |
