Group aids autistic children

Jan 7 2004

Daily Post

A NEW group has been set up in North Wales to provide a social environment for children with autism and their families.

Clwb Sbectrwm will be based in Bangor, and is jointly run by The National Autistic Society Wales and Bangor University.

It is the first group of its kind in the area and offers children aged five to 11 with autistic spectrum disorders the chance to develop valuable social skills through play.

Magaret Jones the Regional Officer for The National Autistic Society, North Wales said: "Clwb Spectrwm is a wonderful scheme which I think will be of real benefit.

"The idea is that the children will develop their social skills. It may also offer parents respite time.

"We are so grateful for all the enthusiastic volunteers from Bangor University who are giving up their time."

* The club's first meeting will take place on January 14 at Bangor University. For more information contact Margaret Jones on 01248 370526 or email: mjones.org.uk
