Children all steamed up as annual show gets on the tracks

Feb 20 2004

Daily Post

IT was full steam ahead at the Welsh Slate Museum, Llanberis yesterday as the annual model railway show got under way.

Enthusiasts are staging displays of scale models of former railway stations to the delight of hundreds of visitors.

Attractions also include regular demonstrations by enthusiasts and museum staff such as What is Steam. There are also the ever-popular rides on miniature engines.

Returning due to popular demand is the junior train buffs room for younger children which is full of different kinds of trains to play with. Una, the museum's locomotive, will also be steamed during the event.

Marketing officer Julie Williams said: "Trains have long been a fascination to young and old alike, and model trains and railways always seem to bring out the enthusiast in everyone.

"With a whole host of layouts and models on display, we're hoping this year's exhibition is the best yet."

The exhibition runs until Sunday from 10am-4pm, admission free. For information call 01286 870630.
