He added: " The fire took hold very quickly but the fire service were superb. "Luckily nobody was hurt and we will look at the various options to see what can be done. "We would like to get the social club up and running as soon as possible. It is not just used by the soccer club but by the local community as well. "It is often used for special occasions such and birthday parties and christening celebrations. It is run by volunteers and all the money made is ploughed back into the club. "I don't suppose £20,000 is a lot to big clubs but to Llangefni it is vital. "We will have to sit down and think hard in terms of how the whole thing will be re-structured." Mr Owen, an Anglesey councillor, said: "It is a great loss to the community, particularly the nearby Pencraig estate, as well as the football club. "We will be getting in touch with our insurance people and we will be taking it from there. There is a determination to rebuild. A few years ago all we had was a green field." Club director John Roberts, 57, was at Sunday night's weekly bingo session. He said: "The fire alarm tripped. We checked around and smoke could be seen coming from a fuse box in the cooler room behind the bar. "When we opened the box flames shot out. "Although we tried to tackle it with extinguishers the cooler fans were spreading it more. We had 26 in for the bingo and they all got out. That was the priority. " |
