Judge Merfyn Hughes QC jailed him for four years, extended the supervision he will receive on licence, ordered him to register with police as a sex offender for life, and also made a sexual offences prevention order to protect other young people from serious sexual harm. Under the terms of the order, he must not have children in his home, go anywhere where children are sleeping, contact or seek to communicate with children, and he must not work with children in a paid or voluntary capacity. The degree of harm he had inflicted on the children was of a significant and permanent character. It was a gross breach of trust, the judge said. "It is my view that the level of risk that you present to society is of such a level that for many years, you will require very careful supervision in order to prevent a repetition of this behaviour," the judge told him. Judge Hughes said Parry was yet to take full responsibility for his offending behaviour and did not appear to fully understand the effect of what he had done. The court heard yesterday that one girl was aged 11 or 12 when he sexually assaulted her. She was said to have frozen and switched off when he did it, and when he tried to kiss her, it almost made her sick. He was said to have indecently assaulted her many times. It happened to the second girl on two occasions. Mr Dunford said the offences occured after Parry moved to the vicarage at Southsea. Gordon Hennell, defending, said his client was well regarded but had now lost his reputation, his family, his home and his vocation. |
