"It was somewhere where people didn't keep bringing up my mum or I didn't see things about my mum, bringing it all back. I dread to think what she would make of all this now." But Vallor scornfully rejects criticism that he is a "computer geek". He insists: "I'd say over the last five years the term geek has been totally transformed. You look at people like Linus Torvald who wrote the Links operating system: a multi-millionaire, he'll never work again. A beautiful wife, a huge house. What more could you want? "If I'm labelled as a geek by people who don't know any better then so be it. I don't know any stereotypical geeks. It's not the weird science age anymore." He laughs off any Satanic links even though his website is called devilwithin.com. It is based on a 1970s film with a picture of a demon stabbing a penguin on it. They refer to two operating system logos. It's a "geek in-joke" because one system is superior to the other, says Vallor. "I could have quite easily done the devil sticking a fork into a Microsoft logo. It wasn't a conscious decision that it will be picked up on as Satanic." He didn't want to be photographed because he "doesn't want to be recognised." |
