Ringtone company Jamster bought the rights to the creation last year. It charges mobile users £3 a head to download the tone. The company has since made close to $18m (almost £10m) on the back of the creation. The Advertising Standards Authority has received 800 complaints. Crazy Frog's manic rant was set to the old Beverly Hills Cop theme music Axel F. The Welsh frog is understood to have originated in the Bangor area. The tone, which can be downloaded for free, was quickly traded among youngsters in the area. In it, the Welsh frog criticises the Crazy Frog phenomenon in a colourful 'Cofi' ((Caernarfon) accent. The anonymous creators of the Welsh frog were yesterday given a 'hands-off' warning by the owners of the Crazy Frog image. Jamster spokesman Robert Swift said: "If someone was trying to sell it, we would probably take further action. "We have invested a lot of money and marketing in the Crazy Frog. "So if someone has decided they are going to jump on the bandwagon and offer things for free under that name, we are not going to be happy about it. "We will have to review each case before deciding which action to take." The Llyffant Lloerig is not the only Crazy Frog critic - the song Kill the Frog by Frog Must Die will be released at the end of the month. |
