"As Phyllis kept on filming I got down on hands and knees for some close-ups. Then the bird started circling round me and all of a sudden it flew into my face, knocking me over. "Then it had another go, and Phyllis shouted to me to shut my eyes as it tried to peck me." Phyllis, 48, said she was concerned for Larry's safety. "The bird was really angry," she said. "It flew at his head and started to peck him. I shouted to Larry to cover his eyes." But ornithologist Gwynne Roberts, of Llanberis, said: "I've never heard of a grouse acting like this before. "A red grouse, like the one which the Kewleys saw, are not aggressive at all. They would usually fly away as soon as they see humans. There is really no explanation for an attack of this sort. They don't lay their eggs until April so there would be no young chicks to protect. |
