Nigel added: "Many prestigious names have performed on the International Eisteddfod stage on the Sunday evening over the years and 2006 will be no exception with the beautiful and extremely talented Katherine

Jenkins finishing the week off in some style.

"This will be Ms Jenkins' first appearance at the festival but hopefully not her last."

The David McLean group is sponsoring the concert.

Wednesday will see the well established Window on the World concert featuring the best performers appearing in Llangollen throughout the week.

Thursday sees an innovation with classic silent comedy combined with one of the world's leading feature film music score composers.

Four of Charlie Chaplin's most popular films will be shown at the Pavilion accompanied with a brand new score by Carl Davis.

On Friday four of Wales' top choirs join forces in a 250-voices-strong celebration of one of Wales' strongest musical traditions.

Froncysyllte, Godre'r Aran, Pontarddulais and Côr Meibion Rhos Male Voice Choirs, all previous Llangollen Choir of the World finalists, take centre stage.

Tickets for the evening concerts go on sale on Thursday, January 5.

The first Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod was staged between June 11-15 1947.

Terry Waite is current president of the organisation. It was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2004.

International stars who have appeared at the festival include Pavarotti, Nigel Kennedy, Shirley Bassey, James Galway, Lesley Garrett and Michael Ball.
