Jose Manuel Bar, Spain's director of state administration for the Balearic Islands, said the drugs were brought in from North Africa and bound for the European market. They named the Britons being detained as brothers Earl Edwin Bridge, of Pwllheli, Gwynedd, Wayne Robert Bridge, 44, of Nefyn, Pwllheli, James Alexander Cootes, 22, from Brecon, Powys, and Andrew William John Coventry, 41, from Manchester, a nephew of the Bridge's. They were arrested on suspected drugs offences. A Foreign Office spokesman said Earl Edwin Bridge was released without charge three day after the October 4 raid. He added: "Their next of kin have been informed and we are providing them with the appropriate consulate assistance." The spokesman said the remaining three are still under arrest in Ibiza. So far they have not been charged and no date has been fixed for any court appearance. The Spanish authorities are continuing with their investigation. Speaking from her home in Cefn y Twr, Nefyn, yesterday family member Hazel Bridge, 73, said: "The Home Office have told me that I am not to say a word." |
