Mum cleared of Asbo breaches

May 20 2005

Daily Post

A MOTHER of two broke down in tears yesterday as a jury took less than 30 minutes to clear her of seven charges of breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

Outside the court her son spoke of the ordeal his mother had to endure and how the family had erected security cameras at her home for her protection.

Lynn Mills, 46, of Cae Llys Close, Connah's Quay, pleaded not guilty to seven charges of breaching a three-year Asbo against offensive or threatening behaviour.

Throughout the three-day trial at Chester Crown Court, Mrs Mills maintained her innocence. She claimed people had called her a "fat cow", a prostitute and drug dealer.

The mum denied using abusive language during September and October last year.

She said she had found it particularly offensive to be accused of telling one woman who had a sick five-year-old son: "Your ginger bastard is going to die soon." "It broke my heart when I heard that. My grandson has leukaemia, why would I say something like that?," Mrs Mills said..

Outside court Russell Mills, 28, said: "I have been at my mum's house and seen the grief they've given her." He claimed his mother had had garden furniture stolen and damaged, her car damaged, and faeces pushed through her letterbox.

They had complained to the police but in the end his brother, Stuart, 25, had installed CCTV cameras for their mother.

Mrs Mills, who has lived at her Connah's Quay address for more than 28 years, was caught up in an off-licence robbery years ago and has suffered nervous problems since.

When the jury returned not guilty verdicts, Mrs Mills broke down in tears and thanked them.
